Introduction to Jazz Improvisation

This short course is designed for instrumentalists and singers, who are new to the world of Jazz Improvisation and is available in two single-day workshops.  Taking place either on-site (eg. in a school, church or village hall) or at The Stables in Milton Keynes, the sessions take each participant on a short journey through Jazz.  Participants are given the opportunity to experiment, make mistakes, learn from each other and experience the fulfilling and cathartic art of improvisation.

Generally, participants are expected to be at a standard similar to that of ABRSM Grade 3.  However, a variation of this course is also available to young musicians, who may have a more limited knowledge of their chosen instrument.

Main Elements

Rhythmic and melodic improvisation

Scale theory (including modes)
